FAQ

Your Questions, Answered.

We get the same questions a lot and that’s a good thing. It means you’re paying attention to your health, your options, and what’s actually going to happen if you walk through our door. Here’s what we hear most.

Appointments & Cost

How much does an appointment cost?

Nothing. Every service we offer — pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, STI testing, options education — is completely free. We’re a non-profit medical clinic.

Do I need health insurance?

No. We don’t accept or bill insurance. Care is free whether you have insurance or not.

Do I need to make an appointment?

We recommend it — it helps us give you private, focused time. Some same-day appointments are usually available.

How long does an appointment take?

Usually 45 minutes to an hour, depending on what services you need. We don’t rush you.

What should I bring?

Just yourself and a photo ID. (we can see you without an ID)

Can I bring someone with me?

Yes — a partner, parent, friend, anyone you trust.

Do you take walk-ins?

We try to accommodate walk-ins when we can, but scheduling ahead is always best.

Confidentiality & Privacy

Is everything confidential?

Yes. As a medical clinic, we have very high confidentiality standards. Your information stays private and is never shared without your written permission.

Will my parents find out if I come in?

No, not from us. We don’t share your information with anyone — including your parents — without your permission.

Will my insurance company find out?

No. We don’t bill insurance, so there’s no record of your visit on your insurance.

Will my partner find out?

Not from us. What you share with us stays with us.

Is my visit added to my regular medical record?

We keep our own records as a medical clinic, but we don’t share them with outside providers or your primary care office without your written permission.

Pregnancy Testing

Is your pregnancy test free?

Yes. Every pregnancy test we offer is free, no insurance needed.

Are your tests accurate?

Yes. We use medical-grade urine pregnancy tests.

I already took a home test. Should I take another?

If your home test was positive, a confirmation test from us is a good next step — it gives you certainty before any decisions. If it was negative and you’re still wondering, we can re-test.

When can I take a pregnancy test?

For the most accurate result, schedule about 4 weeks after the first day of your last period — typically a week after a missed period.

Do I need to fast or stop drinking water beforehand?

No. A urine sample taken any time of day will work.

Ultrasound

Is the ultrasound free?

Yes. Our limited ultrasound is completely free.

What does an ultrasound show?

Three things: how far along you are (gestational age), whether the pregnancy is inside the uterus (not ectopic), and whether it’s viable.

How early can I get an ultrasound?

Typically after a positive pregnancy test and at least 5 weeks since your last period. Earlier than that, an ultrasound may not show enough to be helpful.

Are ultrasounds safe?

Yes. Limited ultrasounds use the same safe, non-invasive imaging used for routine prenatal care.

What does "limited ultrasound" mean?

It means we focus on confirming pregnancy location, gestational age, and viability. We don’t diagnose other medical conditions — for those, your OB or family doctor will do a comprehensive ultrasound later.

Who performs the ultrasound?

A trained medical staff member, under the direction of a North Carolina–licensed physician.

Do you give me a picture?

Yes, if you want one.

STI Testing

What STIs do you test for?

Chlamydia and gonorrhea — the two most common reportable STIs in the U.S.

Is STI testing free?

Yes.

What's the difference between STI and STD?

They basically mean the same thing. STI (sexually transmitted infection) is the term most doctors and the CDC use today; STD (sexually transmitted disease) is the older term.

Do I need symptoms to get tested?

No. In fact, most STIs have no symptoms — that’s exactly why testing matters.

How is STI testing done?

A urine sample — quick and painless.

What if my test is positive?

We provide a referral for free or low-cost treatment. Both chlamydia and gonorrhea are easily treated when caught early.

Abortion Questions

Do you perform abortions?

No. We’re a pregnancy resource center, not an abortion provider. We offer free pregnancy confirmation, ultrasounds, STI testing, and options education.

Will you refer me for an abortion?

No, we don’t refer for abortion. We do provide medically accurate education about every option — including the abortion pill — so you can make an educated decision about your next step.

Are you a pro-life organization?

Yes. We don’t perform or refer for abortions. We do provide medically accurate information about all your options and compassionate care regardless of what you decide. You’re welcome here whatever you’re thinking.

How far along am I? Will the abortion pill work for me?

The only way to know for sure is an ultrasound. The abortion pill is FDA-approved only through 10 weeks, and home dating is often off by weeks. A free ultrasound at our center tells you your true gestational age.

What are North Carolina's abortion laws?

Most abortions are limited to the first 12 weeks of pregnancy, with limited exceptions. NC also requires a 72-hour waiting period and an in-person ultrasound at the abortion facility. The abortion pill specifically is limited to 10 weeks. Full details on our Abortion Pill page.

Can I take the abortion pill if I have an STI?

An untreated STI raises your risk of complications, including pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), after any procedure. We recommend getting tested before any abortion — and we offer that testing free.

What is an ectopic pregnancy?

A pregnancy that develops outside the uterus, most often in a fallopian tube. It can be dangerous if untreated and requires different medical care — the abortion pill cannot end an ectopic pregnancy. An ultrasound is how it’s identified.

If You're Under 18

Do I need a parent's permission to come in?

No. You don’t need parental consent for a pregnancy test, an ultrasound, or to talk with our medical staff about your options.

Will you tell my parents?

No. We don’t share your information without your permission.

What if I'm pregnant and I'm a minor?

All of pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, and STI testing are free including to minors

Can I bring a friend instead of a parent?

Yes. Bring whoever you trust.
